I just notice the other day that my L114 was trying to wiggle into my L600's cave. That's a pretty obvious sign, and given that it's raining constantly lately. I think she was trying to breed. But the problem is, I don't want to hybridize though. Should I intervene? I am kind of trapped between being excited because they started their mating ritual ahead of when I am expecting. But then again, I am a bit appalled that the L114 choose to mate with the L600 instead of the other L114.

IMO, let them do what they want. They are so closely related that I wouldn't worry.

I accidently bred a L201 female with a L262 male and the offspring cross bred plecos turned out beautiful.

Also sent you a PM on another topic.

I thought you said all your L-114 are males LOL Maybe that is why the one chose the female L-600 :)

I agree with Gino

I don't know anymore. I guess, I've been looking at the same one 3 times. LOL. I made the mistake of not IDing them properly when I got them. They were still young and only 1/2 size of their full potential. So I was thinking that it will take at least 2 years before anything would happen. So why bother IDing them and be unsure because of their young age.
Anway, it turns out that I have 2 L114 and 1 L600. Actually, I didn't even know there is such a thing as a L600 until you pointed that out in one of your post. At the time, I though the L600 was just a L114 with a very nicely coloured tail.
Anyway, not all is cast in stone. I need to check on them tonight again. Sometimes, it just might be 2 males fighting for the same cave. And given the size and agressiveness of these guys, that can be fatal.

I'd let them breed for sure if they want to! Did you see the article on breeding L114/L600 on PC? http://www.planetcatfish.com/shanesworld/shanesworld.php?article_id=384&title=Breeding+%3Cem%3EPseudacanthicus+leopardus%3 C%2Fem%3E

They crossed them in two separate occasions.

How big are you fish now?

I have my fingers crossed for you! And I would love to be on your list if they do mate for some babies.

Someday they may decide that many of the plecos are just a variant of the same species but from a different river or location.

Yes, I read that article recently. I am a bit surprise that they let them cross like that.
Anyway, no eggs after 2 days and other than some nipped tails. All's well. Although I have to admit, even if they laid eggs, the endler swarm would've make a quick meal out of them. Not to mention the cave was too small to fit two plecos in there. I think I need to redo the tank soon.

Yes, I agree and feel the same about some of the pleco. Like the L046 and L098. A broken line here and a wiggle there does not mean it's a different species. Possible a different river, but we are talking about the Amazon here. During the wet season. Many of the small rivers turn into 1 big river, there is bound to be migration. But that will end though. With the dam they are building, the entire pleco species may be a risk.
