Here is a little sample of the crap that has happend to me in the last 6 months. I dont know why but I have seemed to hit this bad luck streek and I feel like now I can continue to keep fish and not be scared off.
First I lost abot 30 plec's and 20 cory's. Then it was a tank of 16x Endli bichirs. Then is was a longnose gar ringlets morph very high priced fish :( Then my display tank had the worst luck ever all the air pumps went out even the back up. The power heads and HOB only the stupid canister were going.
I have been looking for the pic's of the plec's and cory's but I dont know where I saved them :( it really bothers me.
Here are the pic's of all my loaches that were found dead in the display tank. Others to die that day were a a group of 6x Huge L-75's, 3x D.pulcher ( rare as all hell ) 2x Uaru.A and a few other I cant think of. I have those on a vid that I hope I can find soon. I lost 77 fish just from the one tank that day :(
I still have some big groups of plec's and cory's but taking a huge hit like this was way too much for me at one point.

Oh it sucked big time LOL
I just had to suck it up and move on.
I am now 100% confident that I am not going to do water changes with bad water from the tap. Even prime did not help that time :( I am also 100% sure that my air pumps will never be turned of agian or have my power head slip under the water line or have my HOB crap out on me. The tank is now 100%screw up free :) I hope LOL

WOW!!!!
I can't even begin to imagine something like that. Were you able to identify what the problem was??? The new water from the tap???? Man that's just plain straight up scary!! Wouldn't even wish that on an enemy.
Kudos to you for carrying on!!!
Cheers!!

The first problem was when I did a few water chnges on some smaller tanks and they went to the crapper because the water was high in ammonia. That day i lost a bunch of plec's and cory's and bichirs. All poisoned by me :( in a way.
Second was 100% equipment malfunctions. I lost 54 clown loaches 9 YOYO's and 14 other fish 3 of them were D.Puclhers so that is like getting my heart ripped out and thorwn in a fire.
Now I am OCD all the way with the tanks. I have done most of them over and all are 100% safe i hope :)

Ouch, that really hurts and I know the feeling.
I am abit confuse. Your clown loaches, Yoyo and cory should be the last to go. All these fish can survive for a short period of time breathing air. So even if the ammonia is high and they O2 is depleted, they can breath straight air for at least 1 day before they succum. I have to wonder what kind of condition cause a meltdown like that. Did the stuff break down for days with out you knowing it?
One sure way to go around this is don't over stock your tanks. I notice that alot of people does that. You can overstock your tank and then over filter it to compensate, it will look fantastic, but the probem with that is. They depend heavily on the equipments. If you get a power outage, everything breaks down in a matter of hours. If you have a sparsely populated tank, it will last at least 1 or 2 days. That is enough time to allow you to discover the problem. Having said that though, I still lost my Altum angles and quite a few plecos. But the clown loach and the corry always survived.

Loaches can not survive with out an air supply fo too long. They dont really breath from the surface and your tank is is probably not 3' high like mine. So even if they did breath from the surface they could not keep it up for too long. I keep the tanks above 87f so it does not take long for a huge group of fish like that to die. The loaches had nothing to do with the water changes. I was out for about 1.5hrs and when I came back I found a tank full of dead fish. You would be surprised how fast fish can die with no air.
The plec's and cory's that died from the water changes must of been stressed to the point of no return. Even prime did not help as I use it with every water change. I am not the only one this has happend to in the city this year.
This was just some crappy stuff that has never happend to me before so I guess it was my time. The corys did not matter as they were just your regular LFS type. The plec's and endlis is what sucked most and the loaches was a real slap in the face.
Just to set things straight my tank was not over stocked in any way.
Ouch! It hurts just to look at those photos. Really sorry for your loss. I've had some water quality issues in the past as well but nothing to equal that. Kind of tough to move on after something like that.

Sorry, now that I re-read my post, it sounded like I was accussing you. But I was only trying to help.
Is your tank heavily planted? I partially blame the plants that killed off my altum angles in the last meltdown. My tank was so heavily planted that the plants compete with the fish for O2. This happens when there is not enough CO2 in the tank. So that contribute in the rapid depletion of O2, which eventually suffocated my angles and plecos.
As for the water change issue, have you condering getting a water filter? I've seem alot of fishroom, and one of the ones that stick to my mind is this setup:
Rainfresh (http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/8/KitchenBath/Plumbing/WaterFiltration/PRDOVR~0621023P/Rainfresh%2BWhole%2BHouse%2BWater%2BFilter.jsp)
He basically have 2 of these, one with a carbon and one with a 30 micron. You can optionally add a 3rd one that use an even finner micron (40 - 50 micron). Since it is using the standard size copper/pvc pipe. It's just like turning on the tap and out comes filtered water. You don't even need to use Prime. The only bad thing I can think of is that the water will be cold.
Those pics depict a very sa d sight. I really feel for you. The last time something like this happened to me, I gave up the hobby for about a year. I lost a colony of Synodontis Angelicus. The largest one was about 12" long and had been with me for about 8 years.
Good luck starting over.

Thanks and I am sorry if I came across rude in any way :)
I really appreciate the help and info and I will be looking into one of those now.
Almost forgot- My tanks do not have any plants in them. Last time I tried they ate all of them and that was a huge waste of money LOL

I am not going to get back into loaches for a long time. I am going to focus on my plec's and cory's. No more display tank until I feel I need another. Maybe next time I will go with some ray's or PBass
