Ok I dont know what went wrong but last night I do a water change on a tank that holds 6 L-134 I dont know how many LF Calicos and LF L-144's and some cory's it's a 120. I do 30% water change and I comer home from work now and all my fish are dead in that tank. WTF I dont get it. I tested the water from the taps they is fine. The tank water is fine the temp no electrical currents running free I dont know what happend. I think I am going to loose it. i spent a lot of time collecting those fish and it was all for nothing. All my other tanks are perfect. The thing is I am scared to do water changes now. I think it is time for me to stop with this hobby for now. I am just going to stick with 3 tanks. I am going to give up all the small ones. It is way too much stress.
The worst part is I just got back after almost 2 months
from the mid east and now I have to come home from one of the first day's back to work to a tank full of dead fish that I was very happy to own. I am very depressed about this crap I have to got to sleep :(
Day's like today make me want to stop keeping fish!

Geez, sorry to hear that man. If thats the only tank you changed water on, the water might be suspect. Maybe its something the city put into the water for spring maintenance ? and it couldn't be detected with the test kits ?
Wonder if the city would tell you whether they added something in the recent days. Just for the sake of your remaining tanks.

Jackson,
Sorry to hear that. It happened to me before and I know how you feel. It was a mystery to me too. The only thing I could conclude was that it must have been the water change. Maybe its related to the water conditions in Lake Ontario in the spring. Things change, the temperature rises and other strange things might happen.
I usually minimize water changes this time of year. I'm so afraid that aged tap water treated with conditioners might still not be perfect.

Ahh man, sorry to hear that! I know the feeling, happened fairly recently to me too. Makes you feel sick :(
I have pretty much given up on small plecos also. I still have a bunch of lf bn that are breeding in the tanks they are in, and I leave the babies, if they survive cool, if not oh well, good food for the other fish. I really do find the larger ones easier to keep, and more tolerant of change once they are settled well.

I have had the same thing happen from time to time. It could be when they have just back flushed a filter bed or it may be a chemical that has got sucked in from the lake. The quality of the water can vary according to the wind direction. In Burlington I have often seen the mud line from Hamilton Bay flowing past the markers of our intake pipes. After a heavy rain all kinds of chemicals and pollutants could be in that flow.
I have a barrel that I run a Magnum Canister Filter on. It contains Diatomacious Earth and dust fine Activated Carbon. This I find removes some chemicals that we can not test for. About all the treatment plants worry about is E colli bacteria.

Really sorry to hear about that loss, best wishes jackson.
Sorry to hear of your loss. I went through the same thing about a month ago. Lost a discus, three L264's, one L200, one L128 and some assorted others. Went into panic mode but in retropspect, I can't see that I did anything wrong. It had to be the water. These things just seem to happen periodically and are out of our control. Don't give up on the hobby.
