Hi,
I have a buncha tanks and I was trying to lower the ph using Indian almond leaves. They have been soaking in the tank for a few days and the water is yellowish now. I checked the ph and its at 7.6-7.8???? im Dosing the leaves at 1 per 10-15gallons of water... Why is my ph so high even though im using the leaves?
Now I checked my tap ph and its lower than what im getting in my tanks?
How do i lower my ph down to 6 or lower? Should I add more leaves?

Possibly some thing in the tank that is raising the pH. Check the rocks and such. Limestone, seashell and sometimes cement can raise the pH.

7.6 is not all that high, mines that high out of the tap and in my discus tank.

ACtually sorry the ph in my tank is 8 , GH is 120, KH is 180 the tap water is 7.2-7.4 GH 30,KH 80.
Im not sure why the GH and KH is harder in my tanks than the tap? I have a a piece of drift wood and almond leaves and regular gravel. 0_o
Something in your tank is buffering the water. What type of gravel are you using?

as far as i know regular rocky substrate, nothing i know acts as a buffer in there? Even in my bare bottom tanks the ph is 8 0_o?
Ill see if peat moss and RO water will work.

What is the tap water PH when you first run it and then again after it has sat in a glass container for say 24-48 hours ?
