Wow, they are really small. 1" put them about 3 months old. Pricey though.

I was at luckys last month they had a bunch that looked like them but I was not too sure. There were tagged as them. They really looked more like L-107's to me and the rpice was fair 28 or 38 not too sure.

Is it the larger white seam that is driving the price up on these guys?

Is there a large white seam and a smaller white seam? I thought they are all the same with some having a bit more white seam while others that doesn't have that much. But both are the same species.
Besides, babies like the ones auctioned always have a very nice white seam. When reaching adults, their white usually becomes less and less. For some reason though, some adult do manage to retain a full white seam. I've once had one like that. Don't know why, but I am assuming it's a genetic marking. Anyway, very difficult to aclimatize the wild caught ones. So getting them to breed won't be easy.

Also, I think the ones that was for sale at lucky looks alot more like Charlie's L182 than a L183.

I seen his in person and they dont look alike. MR. Drews has bigger white spots and are jet black when compared to these fish.
the ones at luckys are sort of grey in colour and have lots of small white spots. Their eyes are very nice nicest I have seen on a BN. My buddy grabbed a bunch and gave me 2 of them I will try and get a few pix of them. He bought them for them heck of it so we can see what they end up being. They were cheap when you buy a bunch off those guy's discounts are huge. I still dont think they look like any of them( L-182,L-183 or L-107/184 ) but only time will tell. We looked at all the aqualogs and PC and so on and they dont have any that really look like them. But the fish are only about 2.5'' not even so they could change with time to be just a plain old balck BN. I still have not seen any that look lik them until I seen these. One thing as I mentioned that make them stand out are they eyes. I think the eyes of plec's tell you a lot when trying to ID them.

That was my initial thought as well. I bought several fry 182 fry from Charlie last year & they look identical. I'll see if I can dig out the photo's.

Gee it makes my 183's more valuble all the time. My adults and fry have wide sharpe snow white bands on the dorsal and tail that look like they were painted on. Lots of tiny salt like dots cover their bodys. Give me another week and I hope fully will be able to crow about my latest batch. I may have caught up with new methods or developed my own by combining technology with what I have learned from past failures.

Lets see: $100 for the fish + $75 for the shipping + $5 for the packaging = $180 for 3 fish.
That's expensive. Hope he/she manage to keep them for a while. These guys don't aclimatize that easily.

Hmm, I am thinking you might have saw the Inspecter/contradens instead. He does breed both.

By the time they are ready to sell Burlington raised 183's will be in tap water and just as easy to adjust as ordinary bushynose.

:) :) :) I hope so Charlie, I really look forward to that. I'd been itching to give them a try again.
BTW, the L182 I got from you in an auction last year are doing exceptionally well in Toronto tab water. So the L183 should be doing well to if they grew up under Toronto tab water. I think you'll know by the survival rate of the fry. If they can't take it, they won't live pass the 3rd month.

My latest batch of L-183 have been eating for a week now with zero losses. They have grown a good bit and with continued good luck should be ready sometime in May.
