Ok, this may help some of you..so here I go:

List Valid as of Feb 28 2009

1) #1 For cheap prices..is... Aquatropicale on Decarie (corner Ferrier) and the other one on the South Shore (Tashereau blvd, Brossard). Fish are usually 2 for 1.
Conditions are usually not good (sorry for being honest guys). Limited selection of Pleco's (currently have Orange Seam, Clown's and your regular others). Had a bunch of Panaque Royals and half of them died in the tank. However, they usually have the best prices in Town. (PS, you can bargain with them also). Make sure you put the fish in a Quarantine tank when you get home. You get what you pay for.

2) Big Al's - Near Sources. Prices are decent for fish. Have a few nice choices of plecos (most of the time). I find they re-order at too slow of a rate. Currently have Gold nuggets, Galaxies, etc... Ive bought 3 Galaxies there recently. they are doing pretty good! No Bargaining with them. Clean conditions. Not as huge as selection as I've seen in the T.O. Wish they had a bigger store
UPDATED: OCT 09 - No Longer called BIG AL's. Same owner though.

3) Nature Pet Store - St Jean blvd, West Island. They get some nice choices of plecos, some times. Currently have a nice Deal of Green phantoms and Blue Diamonds (59 & 69$ for 4-5 inchers!) Biggest choices of fishes Ive seen in Montreal so far. I'd say more on the expensive side, except for the odd specials.

4) Nature Pet Store Lasalle - Newman BLVD. Usually same choices and prices as above. Less tanks & a generally a bit higher prices too (even though they dont want to admit it). Forget about any bargaining with them. Store is clean at least and conditions are good. Catch them when they get their Columbian orders and you're sure to get the more rare plecos.

5) Aquarium du Nord, St Hubert (near St. Zotique). Small store, great service. Make sure to ask for Mathieu. They usually have those more exotic plecos, hiding in those small tanks. You need to look really good to find them. Prices for plecos are average. I've bought some nice size Gold Nugget and king Tiger (L066) from them. Conditions are average and space is very limited in the tank isle (one isle)..small tanks...No Salt Water fish. This store was a precious find.

6) Aquarius store, on Jean-Talon near Iberville. My first visit was today. Medium size store, decent collection of tropical fish (no salt water fish). Currently have an amazing special on L200s Green Phantom -39$. I was tempted to pick him up, but im not too impressed with L200s in general. Clean, conditons are good. Prices are average to higher.

7) Aquarium du Monde, Jean-Talon near Lacordaire. I think the store is closed to public and acts more like a distributor. Call before you go. Mon-Fri 9-5pm - Im planning on paying a visit soon.

I'll post more as I find them, and please do Likewise.

He doesn't sell to people in the province of Quebec, at least he didn't a while back.
Does not want to compete with the businesses he sells fish to.

He sells wholesale only in QC not retail. If you have a GST number then you are good to go.

Hello,

Since I live near Montreal, here are also my finding and some comments on the ones you allready mentionned :

1) AquaTropical : www.aquatropicale.com
The prices are very good, most of the time they have a promotion of 2 for 1 on every fish. But their fish and tank are not in the best condition.
I bought almost all my drifwood (malaysian) at this place, but they had nothing this week whe I went. Sometime they received more than 100+ pieces of malaysian drifwood and the prices vary between $5-35 (maybe 1-30lbs pieces!).
They also have some good price on new tank, sometime tey also have some used tank for cheap. The one on Ferrier is much better than the one in Brossard. They also have a shop in Laval, but never had the chance to go.

2) Big Al's
They generaly have the best choice of pleco.
They price are good and the fish are in very good condition most of the time.
But since the last year, they don't have many pleco.
They have some Adonis right now and the one mentionned before.
I bought almost all my pleco over there (maybe 60-70%).
And when they received them, it's not only 1-2, but more than 20+, so you have a good selection if you want to breed them for exemple.
They also have a good selection of oddballs most of the time, this year I saw : Datnoide, Ray (Tee Cup & Motoro), Wolffish (red), Piranha (Red, Black & Sanchezi), Wolffish (Red and Bleheri), Bichir (Senegalus & Ornate), Lungfish, Gar, Leaffish.
You won't see those at AquaTropical or Nature !
They also have their weekly special that you can find on their website :
www.bigalscanada.com/Stores/Specials/specials.html

3) Nature : www.naturepet.com
They generaly always have the same selection of pleco : L128, L200, L190, L201, L330. Sometime they have something different, 1-2 times a year they have some 6-8" Royal L190/330. The fish are generaly in good shape, but they are expensive.
Nauture in Lasalle generaly have a better selection.

4) Aquarium du Nord
I think I went there one time 3 years ago, nice place, but like upc239 said, you need to find the pleco, but the best choice is to ask where they are.

5) Aquarius : www.aquariusweb.qc.ca
Very nice place, very clean, fair price.
On the seond floor, they have some very nice show tank.

6) Aquarium du Nord
Also know as Worldfish, never went there.
Some pople said that it's quite hard to enter, sometime is open, sometime it's close, like upc239 said, call before making the trip.
I think that they have a account on this forum and they post their price once, but there was some confusion. They had a website, but its is down since a month maybe, but it was still in construction.

7) Subaquatique : www.subaquatique.ca
Nice little place at 30 min from Montreal. Clean tank and fair price.
Not a lot of tank, they had no pleco the last time I went this summer.

8) Safari
I went to 3 of their shop :
- St-Jean Blvd (2 min from Nature) : maybe 10 tank in the back of the store, no pleco the last time I went. look like a local fish store in a village nothing exiting...
- Brossard (Tacherau Blvd) : Similar to Nature, not a very good choice of pleco most of the time. Clean tank and nice & expensive fish. The store setup is very nice, it look like a jungle with a crashed airplane in the middle.
- St-Hubert Dix30 : Similar to the one in Brossard. I went to take a look last summer, they ony had L75 & L200. They were in very good shape, but they were asking $75 ! The store setup is amazing, all the tank (maybe 100+) are in a big pirate boat. When you buy there, I think that you also pay for their expensive store setup !

As for BelowWater, Oliver doesn't sell to people directly in Quebec. But you can ask LFS like Nature and Big Al's to order fish from him if you know what he have in stock (sometime they can order from him if it's a nice order, but they won't for only 1 fish).
If you live between Montreal and Quebec City, one of his friend sell fish form him. The prices are very similar to the prices posted by Rich every month. He deliver directly to your door, you can find some info on his website, but it's not up to date, ask him for a more recent list by email :

BIG AL's no more in Montreal. Owner left the franchise. Store still there under new name. Anyhow, wasn't too impressed with their stock selection in the past year.

Oct 22 09 - Nice Pleco's at Aquarium du Nord on St. Hubert street. Para plecos, Inspector, Sunshine Pleco, Mango/Magnum.

Hello From Montreal,

I went to AquaTropical on Ferrier and they just received a LOT of Malaysian Driftwood !
And they sell them for cheap, the bigger ones (maybe more than15-20 lbs each, more than 50 pieces to chose from of this size) were $70 and for the Boxing Week, they are at 65% discount.

As for pleco, they are quite rare at the moment...

Twit Palace (Boucherville) : 2" L136b (look like L201 inspector)
Nature (Pointe-Claire, 3 weeks ago) : 3" L190, 6" L191
Nature (Lasalle) : 2" L75, 2" L239
Aquatica (old Big Al's, Pointe-Claire) : 2" L340

I may also have some L066 fry in the near future to sell.

Have a Great Day Shopping !
