Well doing my weekly routine today of the water changes in most of the tanks I went into the spare bedroom where I have a 40 gallon tank with all my BN babies including some calico and LF calicos, a crap load of cherry shrimp and a few tiny tiny peacock fry. Well apparently somehow the tank has ick and all of my BN are dead, not all but I think there are 5 remaining. I really don;t know what caused this, total freak breakout.

Not reallly sure if I should treat or not. The shrimp are all a good size and breeding like crazy in this tank and the peacocks don't seem to be accected either.

On the plus side at least pappa BN just had a batch hatch in his tank in the fish room.

Still kinda pissed though, some of these were getting quite large, and the LF calicos I really liked :(

Rich,
Sorry to hear about this. I experienced a similar outbreak a while back and lost some pleco fry too. I used Quick Cure to get rid of the ick and save some fish. I don't know if it would be safe for your shrimp.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck there :(, hopefully nothing else in the tank gets affected by the ick. Unfortunately thats the problem with ick, it can show up at anytime since its usually present in all tanks. Good luck!

ya it sucks.. All I have done is turn up the temp on the heater in there. Annoying to say the least. The last time I had an outbreak it was when I got all kinds of new wild caught fish. Luckily they were in a separate tank. This one just confuses me :(

So does anyone have any LF calicos for sale?

Sorry to hear about your losses there Rich. Hopefully the rest of the fish will be fine. Would adding salt affect the shrimp or remaining plecos? Might be worth a shot.

Rich parasite clear will be safe to use on shrimp, quick cure is iffy. Worse case scenario treat the tank however you need to and the next time your in town swing by and pick up some cherries on me. I have tons. Be aware you'll need to be dilligent on gravel vaccing if they perish, shrimp may be small but large amounts of dead shrimp will foul up the water instantly.

I haven't yet noticed any shrimp dying which I find very odd. The BN are dropping like flies, and the shrimp are eating their bodies before I even can find them. The peacock fry dont seem to be affected either. I'm just going to let it roll for now, see what happens. Leaving to Jamaica in a few days so cant really do a proper medication treatment.

Sorry to hear about your lost. since the fry are too small the only wait I can suggest is move all the fry to a breeder net and run a UV lights and use the macro bag to cover the intake so the shrimps wont get suck in.

Any possibility something came in with your new acquisitions from the catfish convention?

Sorry to hear about the loss.
