The most beautiful Driftwood Catfish Tatia perugiae has finnally spawned for me. Mom is in the cave with wigglers. They should come out any day now. They are a very interesting and beautiful fish that breeds like a livebearer and the female later lays her eggs in a cave and guards the fry until they are ready to leave.

Hey Charlie,
Did you find these at the convention? I had no idea you had them! Put me on the list along with everything else!

I have had these fish for a year or more. I could never get them to spawn. Bought six more at the Peel auction and talked to the breeder who told me they like a blocked pipe. All articles had read only said pipe they should have said cave. I went home threw in a small pleco cave and they spawned in a few days. I now have 20 or more large black fry that look like tadpoles. They appear to live near the surface while they are small. I have given them a floating piece of pipe to hide in. They come out and swim like crazy when you put in the live baby brine shrimp. They say at 3 months of age they look like the parents.

How are the little guys doing now? Any pics of the fry and parents?

The Tatia fry about 2 months old and a half inch long are just starting to get adult colour. Another spawn left the cave earlier this week. I'm struggling with a new computor tower and hope to get into pictures eventually.

Picked up a few of these guys from Charlie last Thursday at the HDAS meeting, after having them in my tank for a few days now I've decided they shouldn't be called oil cats or honeycomb cats; they should be called turbo cats. They actually looked like they were vibrating in the bag and they way they zip around the tank is really neat. For little guys they sure do like a big current as well as live blackworms which seems to be the only way to lure them out.
