Hi there, I am having all sorts of problems getting my plecos to breed. I have them in a 4 foot tank that is kept at 74 degrees. I have a glass bottom with driftwood in there. I feed them zucinni every other day. I have clay pots in there for them to make caves in but I have no luck at all. Water changes are done every week.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I have tried to get these guys breeding for months now and no luck, and yes I am sure I have males and females in this group. They are more than 4 inches in length and I have multiple pairs.

Cheers

is there a hole in the back of the clay pots? most plecos wont breed if there is a hole to the outisde other then the main entrance.

You could also try removing the males so there is only 1 and a number of females. Also maybe up the temp a bit... then drop it and a big water change.

I would take a trio out (1 male) and like above, take your temp up to about 78, then do a cool w/c so you drop the temp a few degrees. It should work.

You may have had eggs, but male BN will go in the other males cave and eat the eggs :(

Have tried the temp dropping several times. Maybe I will continue with trying by rotating the males in the tank every month until I have some success. The pots only have one hole in them. Perhaps I am getting eggs but the males are eating them. I just can't seem to find a recipe that will work with these guys and am starting to get frustrated because I can't find any details on google.

Thanks for your responses. Any other tips are greatly appreciated.

What are you feeding them other than Zucchini?

don't stress to much about them i didn't do a water change for a couple weeks and feed heavy then i droped the temp to about 75 and did a 50% wc and then after a week rasied the temp again i have been told by multiple people that if you move them they take a least a month to settle down and then they will breed for you

Could be that your bushynose are still inmature. Are they at least 10 months old? Mine are kept in 15 gallon tanks a pair or a trio. The temerature is 70 to 74 a mini aquaclear filter gives them current. I do have sand on the bottom but it is not really necessary. The caves are the 4 inch unglazed clay saucers from Walmart. Take 2 notch one 2" wide and glue one to the other with silicone. After it dries place it in the tank with the notch side up. It then has a lip so the eggs don't get kicked out as easily. Mine spawn every four to six weeks the whole year round. Bushynose are grazers and should have food to eat all the time. Are you on city lake tap water or on very hard well water? Is the tank dark at night? It should be.There are a lot of factors that could be your problem. Don't give up. They are the easiest pleco to spawn.

i have 2 males and 1 female in a 15g. glass bottom, they had 2 clay pots and a half coconut shell and they spawnes in the shell. only the male has stayed on the eggs and now guards the fry. they get a pleco chip,Zucchini, flakes.

nope they dont hang out together, but no fighting. the one is always watcing his fry now. there is also 2 clay pots and a coconut shell so there is other places to hide
