Yes my L-174's spawned again. The first time the male ate the eggs. The female spawned with the other male this time and I got nervous and removed the 16 fry soon after hatching. So far so good.

The l-174's pooped out again. They hatched and soon after 2 fry washed out of the cave too weak to hang on. They died two days later. A few days later a fry drifted out dead. Soon they all disapeared. I'll try making the water acid for the next time.

Hi Charlie,

That's sad to hear. I hope the next time works out for you. I'm going to give mine a try. I have been raising 4 of them with a bunch of other plecos. I intend to put them in their own 25 gallon tank soon. Other than making the water acidic ,anything else I should do?

Regards,
Gino

P.S. My salt queen arabesque (L262) have bred again and the fry are doing fine.

I peeked in the cave this morning and see some fry wiggling strongly. I thought that the female had dissapeared from her usual spot for a couple of days. Threw in some black alder cones to help protect the fry from bacterial problems. I hope they are a success this time.

My L-262's will not co-operate. A female sits behind the male in his cave but that is all that happens. Tried R.O. water and plulling the plug on the heater and have a power head in the tank but no results.

Have you had any luck with your 174s lately?

My female 174 has been hanging out by the males cave for a couple of weeks now. Some times they swap caves and I have caught then both in the same cave a couple of times in the last two weeks. They spawned once in the summer but all the eggs went bad. For wild caught fish they sure seem to have trouble raising a family.
