Well yesterday I went to the grocery store and bough a bunch of veggies for the plecs. When I got home I decided to try to make my own food for them.

I took a ton of peas, mango, zuccini, a raw shrimp, and a piece of taillipa put it all in the blender and turned it to mush lol

Then added a bunch of various fish foods, some good quality veggie flake as well as some meaty flake, blended that all in then.

Put a bunch of it on some smaller rocks and stuck em in the oven for about 15 mins. Which made it nice and hard.

So last night i put them into the tanks. Holly crap the one tank they were fighting over it so i threw in another rock for them.

And I put in 2 rocks in my L239 tank and woke up this morning to them cleaned totally!

I would say they were a BIG BIG hit, and really didnt take much time to make either.

I once did something like that when I was keeping oscars, but I also added a bit of dry dog food to the mix. They loved it.

Funny everyone but the fish go wild for my cooking, except the goldfish. They eat anything and everything. I tried another batch of homemade food, all I did was make my house smelly. Rotten fish!

That's an awsome idea! I must try it.

I read elsewhere that someone mixes egg white in, to make it dry even harder and last longer when painted on rocks, with no heating necessary.

I would suggest being careful baking rocks as they can explode in the oven when heated to high temperatures. Something about potential fissures within the rock causing it to explode at higher temps. Mind you it is a great cheap idea.

I use cdn shield rock, theres TONS of it around here, and ultra hard rock, havent had a problem yet, I also dont cook it really really hot either. I could see some softer rocks not doing so well though!
