Meaty things I feed/fed my carnivorous pleco's, Pike Cichlids, Hujeta Gars, Knife Fish and Piranha's:
- Firm white fish meat (for example Tilapia, Pangasius, Red Fish);
- Smelt;
- Squid;
- Mussel;
- Shrimp/prawns;
- raw liver
- krill
- Krill;
- Mysis/artemia;
- Blood worms;
- Black/red/white mosquito larvae;
- Meaty wafers/pellets/granules;
Meaty things I do not feed my carnivorous fish:
- Pink/red fish meat such as Salmon, Tuna and Sword Fish (too rich in fat);
- 'Crummy' white fish meat such as Cod (falls apart, pollutes the tank incredibly);
- Mamal meat (too rich in fat/proteins);
- Poultry meat (unnatural food source);
- live feeders (risk of introducing parasites/diseases, poor nutritional value, in case of Cyprinids containing Thiaminase, a growth-inhibiting enzyme).
