I'm looking for a boyfriend for my female sultan. What I thought was a male female pair turned out to be a female duo. I've sold one and am now looking for a male.
Thank you
Did you ever find a male Sultan? I just picked up two more L264's so they seem to be available once again. You may want to keep your eyes open for one.

More plecos should become available in the next few months... ahh the best time of year to expand your collection till they're gone again for another year.

There are a few sultan plecos at lucky aquarium last Friday. Lucky Aquarium is at Market village on the 2nd floor (Kennedy & Steels).

Hi, thanks so much for all of the help. I'm still looking. It's hard to find anything interesting because I live on Vancouver Island. So they either don't send the good stock over here, period or they hike it up to past affordable. Still, I haven't seen any here yet. I've been calling the mainland and they don't even have any, or i'd have them shipped over.
I'm so grateful for the responses!!!!
For Jordsonsmom: A silly question to ask but I'll ask it anyway. How can you be sure that you had two females? I have four Sultans and I find it very difficult to sex them. I usually assume that a Sultan with lots of white tipping is a male and one with a drab colouration to be a female. Neither sex have prominent odontoid spines. Sultans are Leporacanthicus plecos which all seem to have long narrow heads. I also assume that a thicker abdomen is indicative of a female. Am I right or wrong? I'd like to set up a breeding colony (or at least try) but you need two to tango. Lots of Sultans are available at the moment so I may get a few more. I'm hoping to set up a Sultan only tank over the Christmas break.

LOL, silly me. Didn't see your location. Have you tried, the exotic Montreal fish site:

I only know that they used to have a lot of rare plecos. But the lack of pricing and species list makes me think that they are cater to people who have too much money in their hands.

You hit the nail right on the head. Look at body thickness and behavior. The males generally have the fancier colors, although that's not always the case. My female had little white and the male had lots. Also, once they reached maturity the females mid section became QUITE a bit thicker and the male sayed fairly thin but long. Behavior; After being given many different types of spaces to hide in, the male chose a "den" in a drilled out peice of driftwood and stayed close to the mouth of the den while the female spent most of her time seeking food.

THanks for the link. They don't seem to have much right now, but i'll keep watching. I really appreciate all of the help!
Thanks for the info Jordsonsmom. My Sultans are all either sub-adults or juveniles. My largest is about 4.5" long and I'm pretty sure its a female. They all have a bit more growing out to do before breeding becomes an option. I think I'll get two more while they're still available.
