I'd like to broaden my pleco collection. I'm interested in any pleco's that don't grow any larger than 8". If you have babies/jouveniles or adults to sell and don't mind shipping to BC, please let me know. Thank you!!!:D

Hello jordonsmum:
Before you start buying plecos helter skelter, I recommend that you consider which ones you already have and what you would like to have. Try to match the dietary requirements fairly closely - this can save you from future problems like bloat. I also suffered from the "Pokemon" syndrome - gotta catch em all. Now I have all sorts of plecos with different eating habits and I have to be careful with the diets. As a consequence, I've had to redo the tanks. Carnivores in one tank, Aufwuch and vegetarians in another, panaques in another. This also helps in cleaning the tanks because some poop a lot more than others. I know its tough when you've been bitten by the pleco bug. Planet Catfish is a good resource for listing pleco sizes and dietary requirements. A bit of planning can save lots of future agrivation.

Hi, thanks for the info.
When i'm emailed about particular pleco's I do my homework before accepting them. I have 7 tanks set up from 25 gal - 125 gals. Each has seperate dietary needs. Some cuc's, zuccuni, broccoli, peas and algae wafers. Some blood worms, krill, dapnia, brine shrimp, etc.... And some of them require both. Thanks for the concern. It's nice to see that someone actually cares about the fish for once. Better than the post I just saw on one of our local for sale sites where someone was going to flush the fish if no one bought them.

I should prob add that I've ripped out each tank as I add inhabitants and aquascaped with the proper caves for the breed. I've spent a lot of time at what used to be my dining room table over the past few weeks... making driftwood caves, clay pot caves, PVC caves, slate caves... etc etc... I'm seeing caves i my sleep...LOL

Its nice to know I'm not the only nutbar out there. My wife says I spend more time with the fish than with the family! If you're looking for plecos under 8", I'd recommend more of the Leporacanthicus species. I see that you already have a couple of Sultans. The L007 Vampire and L091 Three Beacon are both attractive plecos that share a common diet and size range as the L264s. Some of the smaller pseudas are quite attractive as well. My collection is going that way so of course I'm biased to these types. You may want to check them out.

Best regards

somehow that all sounds all too familiar...LOL I'm affectionately teased at home about the time I spend on my fish as well. Trouble is, hubby's in the navy and I have too much alone time when the kids to bed at 7pm. I don't sit still well:D I'm also a little frustrated with being so limited in selection just because I live on an island. We are soaked here because we have limited options. I'd like to bring some nice pleco's to the islands and educate owners on proper care. It AMAZES ME what people don't take the time to find out when they buy fish. Like stores that sell a bowl and a gold fish to people for the first time because their kids want a fish and forget "oh by the way, the ammonia and nitrates will kill your wonderful new toy in a week. Breaking the childs heart and making a harmless fish suffer."...\

Oh dear.... there I go again.. sorry..:o Anyway. The info you gave me is very useful. I'll take a look at those guys. So far I LOVE my sultans. They are just chalked full of personality. They love their driftwood cave, and surprisingly are really good at sharing it. but not for too long of course..lol
