Well I got ambious today and took all the gravel out of my 125 gallon tank that is very over crowded. I just couldnt keep up with cleaning all the crap out of it.. So now its MUCH easier. What a nasty pain in the butt job that was, but suprizingly it doesnt look bad at all now. I may even re-do it and put some slate tiles on the bottom so its dark and not see thru glass for the fishies. Will try to get some pics once the shit in the tank settles. The filters sure are gonna need a cleaning after this!
I think Zoban did a tank with slate tiles on the bottom. I also think he siliconed the seams to prevent crap from getting under the tiles. It looked pretty sharp. You may want to PM him to see how it went and whether he's still happy with it.

KLC would be correct in my putting a slate bottom in a tank.
Thick bead on the bottom for all edges and then a toaster strudel pattern in the bulk areas to act as a cusion for the tiles. then did the seams.. Should be a thread here on it if not is on the CFF and DRAS boards..

got the slate in yesterday. no option to silicone it as I cannot drain the tank. they seemed to suck themself to the bottom REALLY good tho!!! No spaces or anything between the tiles. will get some pics shortly. So far I like the look a lot.
