So I occasionally frequent some of the shops in the Scarborough and Mississauga area and to every Aquarium Services I have been to and purchased fish they have added pure oxygen to the bags. I usuallly tell them the fish will be in the bag for 2-4 hours. One time I was at a store and they told me that too much oxygen (as in pure) could end up "burning" their gills and eventually kill them.

yea i was told that too...i'm pretty sure its true. and i think 2-4 hrs isn't too much for pleco's to handle

I was told that it will sufficate the fish or burn the gills. The guy told me that catfish in general should not have it added to the bags.

Gotta luv those myths. The O2 will have no effect on their gills whatsoever. O2 is only dangerous biologically when under extreme pressure.
ooo i dind't know they were myths... i wonder how this myth started. and spread to a lot of big fish stores and lfs

God only knows how a myth gets started... perpetuating them is easy... just post it on the internet as the truth... lol.
There are so many myths out there with regards to keeing fish.
