I get so excited when I see a new post on here. But lately there is not much action on here. I like this forum because we are mostly from Ontario and can help each other with health issues and also let each other know when some great Plecos show up locally at the lfs, or a local beeder has some fry. I like the other Pleco forums too but this one is awesome.

Lets get to know each other and share ideas and Pleco knowledge on to each other.

Hope to chat soon!:)

Hi Sandy: My thoughts exactly! The site has been pretty quiet lately. It could be because of school ending, the start of holidays and the nice weather. People aren't thinking much about fish. On a different note, I tried the Wardley slow sinking crumbles and the Sera catfish chips that were recommended by Bwhiskered. My plecos love both of them, especially the crumbles. I got them through MOPS in Hamilton. You may want to give them a try. Maybe we can try posting photos etc to get the site a bit more active.

Been poking in and out last while but as mentioned with it being summer a lot of people scale back on fish rooms and most clubs close down for the summer monthes etc etc ..

Myself, I've been busy with house, garden, adjusting tanks and swapping out etc, also looking after the new DRAS forums and Canadianfishforums.com all while trying to slowly ramp up as the new Editor for the DRAS Tank Talk monthly publication.

Always bouncing around the different forums just not always posting.

I work for a School Bus Co now that schools out I now have all kinds of time, it so quiet in the office I can surf all day. I just set up a 55 gal Planted tank I'll try to post pics soon.

Hi,

I'm going to be away for a week or so. When I get back I may be selling a few nice plecos. I have too many. Stay tuned for the post.

Not to worry KnaveTO cause I still have 14 others. I'm trying to re-evaluate where I want my collection to focus. I'm thinking pseudas and leporas probably.

I've been busy with the garden and my pond. Don't spend much time in the fish room. Just feeding daily and essential wc for my discus. Long finned BN pleco spawned for the first time and I'm really excited about this. It's a small spawn of about 15 fry but nice to see little guys swimming around.

I would liek to start getting some plecos and maybe get to a point that they breed... but the selection in Toronto is rather lackluster at the moment

klc

You have a good point, selection is a bit light. Big Al's in Brampton has a couple of L260's and a couple of L264's at the moment. I got my L114 there a couple of weeks ago. You just have to keep your eyes open and have an idea what you want to stock your tanks with. Then if you see it, buy it. You can also check the for sale postings - some breeders may have plecos you'd be interested in. Let us know what your after and maybe we can point you in the right direction if someone sees a pleco on your wish list.

I would love a pair of L260's to begin with... lol... hmmm where is the Big Al's in Brampton?

A few people at LFS told me this time of year slows down because sales slow and the warmer weather we are having lately is Not good conditions for shipping fish. That makes sense but I still want to add some new guys to my Pleco family! LOL

Thank and most of what I have seen imported seems to have that virus that a couple of the guys on the forums had... I have seen whole tanks at BigAl's infcted with it on the plecos

Big Al's Brampton is located at 16 Kennedy Rd. S. at Queen St. It's a little plaza on the S.E. corner of the intersection. Their phone number is 905-459-1174. They had a couple of L260's on the weekend that were 3-4" in length. Looked nice. I'm going there tonight so will let you know if they're still available.

You guys and gals might want to contact Bwhiskered. He is an exceptionally good pleco breeder and sells the cheapest king tiger pleco I've seen in North America. I think he's working on breeding several other types too. If I weren't so overstocked, I'd be knocking on his door long ago.
I think he have some inspector plecos too (now rename to hypancistrus contradens).
Hope I can come here more often, but been kind of depress lately over the lost of 6 of my zebra plecos juvies.

I am really sorry to hear that. I can understand your feelings. Years ago I lost a colony of adult Synodontis Angelicus that I was trying to spawn. I got soo depressed and dropped out of the hobby for a while.
Hope you can new ones soon and start again.

I thought Hypancistrus contradens and Hypancistrus inspector were two different species and two different L numbers?

Oh and WOOT... 1000th post

Sorry... simple minds... ;)

I replace my hydro sponge filter with a brand new Eheim canister filter thinking that it was a major improvement and will keep the tank sparkling clean. But for some reason, the Eheim must have sucked in enough air bubbles during water change that it stalled.
I didn't know about it, and was busy with life. 4 days later when I found out, my zebra fry was living in poison water. I should consider myself lucky that I only had 6 casualties. But it still hurts and it's very frustrating.

My understanding is that the proper inspector is not the L201 but L102 and that the L201 is actually the Contradens..

Okay... no such trip to Big Als for me :(

My islation tank is now going through an ich cure on the fish being isolated. I had some dwarf chain loaches and blue neons in there going through a waiting period and the loaches started flashing. So now I am attempting to nip this in the bud... but that means the tank is in use for that for the next 10 days :(

Oh well there are more of them out there and eventually I will find the ones I want.

I have not been posting on here nearly as much as I should be! With the move up to cottage country and working on so much yard stuff and kayaking I just don't have the free time anymore :( That and I really wish my tanks werent so damn overcrowed, need some more room here badly.

I've bought a few of the contradens, king tiger and mouth brooding whiptails from him and I hope to pick up a few of the weitzmani as well! Excellent breeder and very knowledgeable! Super good prices as well. I'd love to see what he could do with zebra plecs!

Heh heh, that's about the only thing that I have that he doesn't have. I've breed the contradens too, but found that it requires the same effort to breed as the zebras. So decided to put my time on the zebras instead of the contradens.

Yep I am alive!!! And i just finallky got my zebras in their new permanent home. After at least 2 months of neglict no water changes and little food I didn't loose a single one of them! I am really not sure why everyone seems to think that they are hard to keep, honestly of all the plecos I've ever had they are the hardiest ones!!!! just costly as all get out.

Anyhow they are now housed with 5 or 6 L400's.
