The ordinary Bushynose plecos, goldspot, albino and long fin raised in the aquarium trade are all the same species and spawn readily at 72 to 74 degrees F provided they have a suitable cave to spawn in.
The other types or species nearly always require water in the mid eighty's.
Some such as the L-201 Inspector will spawn in straight Great Lakes tap water.
Most of the others require the water to be softened. The procedure is as follows. The fish are kept at 84 to 86 degrees and must be mature. They are fed well and brought into spawning condition. Water changes are then stopped for a couple of weeks or brought to a bare mimimum. That is followed by water changes every other day with cool R.O. water for a week. This along with a power head naer the surface should help induce spawning. This is the procedure followed by most of the successful breeders. So far it has worked with my L-66 King Tiger Plecos. For some species a slate cave is a must others bamboo closed at one end. Our rainy season in fall and spring also helps trigger spawnings.
