I recently bought a group of rarely if ever seen little characins. They are called Hyphessobrycon stegemanni or Savanna Tetra. They grow to only about 1-1/4" and are silvery with a smudged gray to black line from the head to the tail. I have spawned them already and have found that they lay very dark tiny eggs less than half a millimeter. At first I did not reakize that they had spawned but thought it was fish poo. The second spawning was today and I was surprised to see dark gray coloured eggs. Most tetra eggs are clear or amber. Silver Tips are the only one that I have come across which lays creamy whitish eggs. There is only one picture on the web of them but it is very poor and so is any other information.

Thats a good looking little fish, the picture I saw, they had a little red in them too is that right?

are they difficult to spawn then?

Some of mine have a touch of red. They spawn easy in half tap and half RO water. The eggs and fry are super tiny but so far look like fast growers that are easy to raise.
