Wondering if anyone else has tried feeding live freshwater clams to their large meat eating plecos? I grabbed around half a dozen of them the other day from the lake and threw them in with my 2 12" L14's. The clams almost immediately stood up and started burring themselves. Pretty cool watching them do their thing in there. The algae eating plecos sure made quick work of cleaning the 'gunk' off the shells and I think they are really annoying the 2 large L14's as I have seen them trying to get through the shell but without much luck. Curious to see if they will eventually make it through.

Ditto - should be very interesting to watch the clams even if the plecs don't get through.

I saw the shark-clams at Big Al's lately. They look very cool and/or weird with the big 'fin' on top.

Have you read up on the what type of clam is it? Some clams release parasitic larvae as part of their life cycle. These larvae would attach themselves to the fish and feed off the fish. That's how some clam migrate. Just becareful it's not these types that you put in your tank.

Some clam larva travel in a fishes gills. I do feed canned baby clams to some of my meat eating plecos.
