For many years I had a pair of lf albino plecos that took a bit to get breeding after that they breed regularly and have raised many fry from this pair. About a year ago I lost the female and the male never took an interest in any others. So I purchased another mature male to pair off with one of the mature females I raised from this pair.
At first this male would not pick a cave, then he picked one that was too big and the female kept escaping. Finally he picked another one i put in when I removed the other and was guarding eggs and I left on holidays and came back to nothing. Since then he has been in domain a few times but never for more than a day. Until two days ago I noticed he had been in there for a couple of days so moved him to 10 gallon with apple snails and tonight I finally after almost a year see little ones with egg sacks scooting around the tank.
Congratz Pam! Persistence pays off :)

I have seen that happen as well where a male is slow to remate with a new female. If he always has two or three females with him that doesn't usually happen if he loses one.

Thanks Everyone! I really missed having little ones.
I have some more females in other tanks I may reintroduce to my old male again now that he has been a bachelor for a while, maybe he will take a liking to to one or two.

Thanks,
More good news the little ones have been out for about a week now, and this morning I saw another little one still with an egg sack. I think he has two batches, there were two females in the tank with him. I guess he made it worth my wait. lol

Bad news update the first batch appears to be all short finned from what I can see from lf parents. Darn!! :banghead:
Did add two females in with my old male, hoping since he has been a bachelor for awhile he may take and interest in one or both.
Good news I see one little wiggler in the lf red marble tank.:biggrin:

Looks like my old male has come out of bachelorhood. Been upside down in his barnacle for the last couple of days after I saw one of the females hanging out with him.
And..
Seeing more calicos every day.

Hi Pam, Congratulations and thank you for posting the picture. Is this a long fins calico or short fins ?

This is the long finned, but hard to tell at this point if they are all long finned.

Here is some of the new male"s fry fighting over food with the diffusa snails. In this batch I seem to have some short fins and long.

Congrats on the spawn. I had a male BN that would spawn with 3 females and after a month or so they would all lay eggs withing a 24 hour period so it was easy to remove him and all his 150 to 200 eggs :)
I haven't had a pair in quite some time either and do miss seeing the little ones to

Yes I have a bunch of them growing out with the bns.
That pic makes it look like they are wall to wall, but it is not that crowded. Food pile up.lol
