View Full Version : Imperial Plecos?
Big Al's in Brampton has "Imperial" plecos listed this week for $ 21.99 ea. Has anyone seen them yet? Imperials are often listed as zebras but I'm guessing that they're something other than any of the Zebra types. I think I'll check it out!

Hi KLC,
The plecos for sale are L204 Flash Plecos. Good size at 3" +. Check them out.
Gino
Thanks Gino, I'll do that. I've wanted a Flash pleco for a while but have never seen one for sale. I'm still not sure how a Flash pleco can be listed as an Imperial.

Same way I bought my Inspector/Contrdens as Gold Nuggets. LOL
Average shop staff have no idea when it comes to "proper naming", not to say all but the vast majority in my experience.
I gotta learn to keep my wallet in my pocket! I went and looked at the Imperial plecos. You were right Gino, they are L204 Flash plecs. I bought one with a beautiful lyre shaped tail. I also came home with a 4-5" long L075 Para pleco (listed as a Leopard pleco)(I think I've got the number right). If my daughter hadn't dragged me out kicking and screaming, I'd have probably bought more. That was the best selection ofplecos I've ever seen in that store.

Klc,
Good for you...I'm happy you got the Flash and Para plecos. I too was surprised with the plecos at this store. I hope they keep it up.

I am a shopper at BigAls but have noticed a lot of sick fish lately in the store up in Willowdale. But yes the staff have little knowledge about certain plecos and their ability to co-exist in a tank.
That's why you need extra tanks - to rescue all those poor unknown, mislabeled and misunderstood plecos!

Ah yes... and thus we are only doing our true and faithful duty to our pets and their brothers and sisters... lol ;)
Yup, that pretty much sums it up!

I was in Big Al's Brampton yesterday and bought 6 L262 Salt Queen Plecos for $21.99 each. It was the only ones in the store. They called them Spotted Plecos. A good bargain.
I'm glad you got them. My daughter was eyeing them as well.

I keep seeing a pleco I like... and then another of you posts about some other kind... what am I going to do... I am already planning out 2 tanks (50 and 65 gal)... that means only 2 trios of plecos (1 male 2 female each species). How many can I honestly put in a tank?
This is a bad group to ask that question cause you can always fit one or two more into a tank. I have 9 plecs in a 90 gal tank with discus and 9 more in a 40 gal breeder tank (36"L x 18"W x 16"H) set up only for plecos. Both tanks are filtered with Eheim ProII's and also have powerheads with sponge filters. If you overfilter and do water changes once or twice a week, you can push the tank population up a bit. It also depends on what plecos you want to keep. Some grow large but many stay fairly small. They're all pooping machines but some are worse than others.
