How do you know (other than the obvious - when it's too late) when to reinforce a floor in a house if a larger tank is being planned? How would I know if a floor should be reinforced and how would that be done?

I've been offered a 110g complete with a stand and all equipment but I don't know what the weight bearing load is that this house floor is good for.

If the tank is placed against an outer wall there should be no problem. Against an inner wall would be ok if the main beam or a load bearing wall is below it in the basement. The total weight will be about 1000 lbs. You could get 6 or more of your fattest friends to crowd together and see how the floor holds up. All kidding aside unless the house is in very bad shape it should be alright.
