View Full Version : Geophagus tapajos "Red head" eggs going Bad(fungus)

I have a breeding pair of Geo "Red head" Tapajos.Female will lay the eggs on a flat smooth piece of rock then male and female will guard the eggs side by side, after 2-3 days the eggs never hatch ( fungus) .They spawn all the time every 3weeks.They did it more that 4-5 times all the eggs go bad,now iam worried.What do u guys think i should to got some fry.I have them in 96g tank.Any one breeded geophagus tapajos (Red head)??

personally, i would name these two 'Ellen and Portia', reintroduce some new tapajos to the tank, and wait for a new pairing to occur. other options to consider, IMHE, would be to toss that wood decoration (forcing them to spawn on a new surface), and/or treat their feed with a broad spectrum antibiotic prior to their next attempt. when a complete spawn dies off, as quickly as your pic indicates, i blame the fish. if a spawn dies off over a 5+ day period, i focus on water and surface issues. HTH.
