So last night was exciting to say the least.

Never known a dog to eat a porcupine before, but mine did!

11 ish let the dogs out to go pee, they take off.
1130 the small one comes home, cool.
1145 the big one (Snickers comes home), hes walking funny and scared to come right up to us. Get a look at him and hes found a baby porcupine. Like 20-30 quills in his snout, gums, tongue and paws.
1215-1230 we got most of the quills out, the ones in his gums and tongue the most difficult by far, could not get them all out. I think 4-5 left in his mouth.
1245ish Snickers walks over to us and pukes up porcupine, NASTY NASTY smell, and just down right discusting. Now we worry that he has quills internally, so start trying to find a 24hr vet. Get a hold of an on call vet, sweet. Vet says to make him puke again, cause its better to come out that way then the other. So more fun begins. Peroxide, a dog that is totally fed up with us trying to pry his mouth open and some quills left in there.
2am all porcupine evidence is gone from stomach, yahoo. Go to bed
830am be at vet for opening, so they can look him over and get the remaining quills out of his mouth.

Poor guy :(

Glad to hear you found a vet and hopefully got the quills out of his stomach. He is probably really sore today. One tough dog!

Well, one thing is for sure, he won't eat porcupine again.

Glad to hear it turned out ok. You must be going back to bed now. =)

Actually the vet said that is not the case at all, if he goes for a porcupine once, he'll go for another one.

He's still at the vets, they have to put him under to remove them, $1,000 so far, damn porcupines.

$1000 that hurts! The two dogs up at the farm get messed up with the porcupines at least once a year.

Well hes home again, vet bill ended being less then expected, but still a lot. Found out it was no baby porcupine as he had like a 4" quill in his tongue.

I had that with my springer years ago. It was no fun sittting on him and pulling a couple of dozen quils from his nose and in his mouth.
Some learn from the experiance and some don't. Mine was also bit by a rattle snake. That ws no fun either.

Glad that he's ok. I have to say he's one tough dog. I once had a chihauhau that thought he was a cat and hunt for mice and rats not much smaller than him.
