Hello JK,
Is-it yours ? It look like an awesome little pseuda.
Look like a L114, but the colors are "weird".
Your first picture look like the ones on this site :

(look at numbers 37, 40 & 41 in the middle of the page)

Hey Chouin,
Thanks. My first thought was possibly L273 ? Couple of reasons why i think it might not be L114. There's 2 rows of black dots along the snout to the head (like #40 in that Japanese site). 2nd. The body pattern is different. 3rd. The tail itself. I think the 2 streamers will be longer then the lil' L114.

I dont think 273, I think maybe 114 with different colouration, maybe little 600 even

according to the PC pseuda page.........its a pseuda sp. (5)
though there is uncertainty whether its just a odd colouration of a leopardus or L273.

That's also a possibility. The 2 verticle lines of black dots in the head region is interesting though.

Wow, I've been thinking "What the"! ...it doesn't look like any L114 or L600 that I've seen. Then again, it might have been a L114 baby though. But the rear fin was fully coloured, could it be possible that the Brazilian or Columbians are cross breeding the L114 and the L600 and then lied that they are wild caught?

Peter,
Very possible. When I first saw it, I thought it was unique in a couple of ways compared to smaller L114's, L600's. So, I'll see what it will grow out to be in a couple of months.

Came across this sample of the L273 from L-Welse.com (Hope its ok to paste a link of their pic..Please remove if not Rich. Thanks)
I thought it was similar to my fish in a way, but we'll see in 6 months time :)

your link, fish have irregular spots like squares and rectangles but your pleco the spots are round.
I would say it's L114. the fading color not odd pattern but rather cause by stress. Give it a month and you will see.

Hehee...Is that your final answer Hong ? Seriously, I'll try to take a pic every 3-4 months just to keep track of it's development and growth. Would be interest to see.

When i get a chance I will show you some odd pattern L-114's I picked up. i was able to look through a few hundred of them over the last few months and picked out some really different looking L-114's.
The fish you have is very nice.

Well, checked the little guy yesterday and he's not really lil anymore. Grew almost like an inch since that last pics.
Thought I would share and also I noticed black seams at the end of the tail and dorsal fins. Also another observation was the dots on the tail. They were not black, but rather grayish transparent...interesting.

Update Sept 10, 2010
Got a bit bigger : ) I notice that the head is very unique and flatter than other plecs. Overall body shape is also a bit shorter. Approx. 5.5"

It almost looks like a cross between an L114 and L273 now to me.

Yah, it's a cross of some sort. The dark body dots are not as distinct...almost faded in a way. Wish they had a few more when I picked it up. Growth rate is same if not faster than L114s.

what are you feeding your pseudas to get such good growth rates if you dont mind me asking?
Jkhuu

Mostly pellets (NLS & colourbit, massivoire), bloodworms, algae wafers. The occasional frozen homemade mix. I have frozen shrimp and zucchini added to the mix so it less time-consuming to feed separately.
I personally find feeding them once a day works best and minimize the mess.

Pretty much what I feed mine also, I think jkhuu does more water changes or something tho, cause he seems to get crazy growth. That's my new years... errr well september years goal, to do 2 x 50%+ water changes a week. My experience I have noticed better growth on water changes then food..

Ancient chinese secret :) Seriously, I would love to be able to do 20% twice a week, but between work schedules and the 2 lil' ones, available time is a premium. Maybe someday I'll setup constant drip system. Big water changes will definitely have a positive effect on growth though.

Yup, my experience also indicate that the size of the tank, correct currents and frequent water change helps them grow faster too. Too much meaty diet only turns them into a fat fish.

I'm doing the 50 - 60% 2x a week in my 125 and I have noticed some increased growth in certain species. The L114, L200a and my Royals (L330, L190 and L191) seem to have increased appetitite and seem to be growing faster. However, the L273, L128, L226, L239 and the rest (a bunch of Hypans) don't seem to care.

see, this is why I love coming here. I post on other boards and people flip when I tell them i change 50% weekly, and here you guys are doing 50% or more, twice a week.
If you think about it, they are river fish by nature, meaning they have a constant supply of fresh water rushing by them at all time. Maybe thats part of the reason why growth rates are so accelerated in the wild?
I love all the pleco keeping secrets, thanks guys

Mike,
Lol...I was thinking of setting up a system similar to the one in the video, but my wife would have kicked me out of the house  But imagine that eh. Twice a day the tanks get emptied.

Wow - that's a lot of water to go through twice a day!! I wonder if they have any mould issues with it being wet so long/often. But what a cool set up / easy way to do water changes! :)
