If Finnally Got an Id

Ever since I got the plecos last April rom Snookn21 that I bought as L-184's I have had trouble finding their true identity. Finally the German experts that frequent Planet Catfish came up with L-071. After checking out one of their sources of information I tend to agree that they are probably right. They have eggs as big and as sensitive as the L-183. They spawn oftener but not as may eggs and at least half or more are sofar infertile. I have at present got 6 that I have raise to 3-1/2" from my first spawn last summer. This winter I have 10 fry from one spawn and now 8 from another. I also lost 2 spawns that I found too late. They may well be discribed as a Starlight variety. The black is solid and the bright white dots appear to be placed in almost uniform rows.

There is still one thing that troubles me. Sizes given in the L numbers book and the ones on Planet Cat fish are not the same. The L numbers book gives both L-182 and L-071 as a 10cm fish and Planet Catfish gives them as 20cm. I find that the Aqualog L numbers sizes is about the size of both species which I have.

Charlie, I have had a group of L182 that grows to 8"... Not just 1, but 5 out of 8 in the group were all at 7-8".
