I am responsible for rounding up speakers for the next CAOAC Convention which will be held the Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-27, in London, Ontario.

Is there anyone in Ontario or nearby in the US who you would recommend for a presentation on plecos?

Ginny was in an auto accident and busted up a number of ribs and is healing very slowly. She will not be able to attend.

Ah, the person who wrote the pleco breeding topic. That makes sense. What he wrote there was very good stuff. I wonder what other plecos did he breed besides the king tiger and inspector (now call contradens).
Acutally, now that I think about it. I think I heard some one said he breeds the BN starlight pleco too...
Hmm ... I think I'll send him a PN.

All those articles were written by Charlie/bewiskered. He is breeding a good number of L #'s and working on a bunch more at all times. If I remember correctly he is trying to get L134's, L204's, L183's and ummm can't remember the rest but I'm sure there are some.

Thanks for the feedback. Charlie declined my invitation to speak as he thought that many of the attendees had already heard him speak on plecos.

He did suggest Stephan Tanner and Stephan has graciously agreed to come and speak.

Stephan is the owner of Swiss Tropicals out of Columbus, Ohio. Check out the site for some unique plecos. http://www.swisstropicals.com

He is a breeder of plecos, the former editor of the bulletin for the German Barb, Tetra Loach and Catfish club, and a very good friend of Ingo Seidel - the co-author of the Mergus Catfish Atlases. Stephan works as a Research Scientist in the field of Human Genetics out of Ohio State University.

Hypancistrus inspector is not the same fish as Hypancistrus contradens. They are both fish described by Armbruster. Since Inspector was described prior to Contradens (2002 vs. 2007) even if they turn out to be the same fish, H. inspector would have priority. Bob

WOW, this will be great. Please keep us informed as to when exactly the event is, time of speaking etc. As I am sure many of us would like to come to it!

You are right, Hypancistrus inspector is not the same as Hypancistrus contradens. But in the fish hobby, what was known as Hypancistrus instpector a few months ago is now known as Hypancistrus contradens. In another word, L201 is now call Hypancistrus contradens. L201 is NO longer called Hypancistrus inspector.
I was a bit pissed off by the change in name, as I like the name inspector better.
Edit: heh, my grammar really sucks.

As I understand it, the contradens vs. inspector confusion is not the result of ichthyologists changing the name. The confusion apparently arose from Aqualog incorrectly identifying L #'s, which are not reliable indicators at the best of times. This is not African cichlids being continually reclassified. As I noted in the previous post both of these names were bestowed by Armbruster. An article from Practical Fishkeeping detailing the differences between Inspector and the other recently described species of Hypancistrus makes for good reading.

Even after re-reading (had read it when first released as well) that I think I am still uncertain as to exactly what I have. Will have to take a real close look again at my lil guys when they umm let me lol..

Okay looked at all the images again on PC and I am gonna hav to find new names as they are indeed L201 Hypancistrus contradens The spots on the face are same size as the rest of the body and dorsal meets the adipose.

sheesh ... I originally though that it was just a name change and the fish was still the same ... but after re-reading that, I am beginning to think that contradens is a different fish. Great, now I don't even know what I have ....

That is the position I was in.. My fish were correctly (I think) tagged as L201 but the L201 was incorrectly tagged as Inspector..

If I'm to understand this whole thing right there never was an L201 Inspector as the L201 and the Inspector were always two different fish.

Make sence ?

Gonna have to do a write on this soon for Tank Talk LOL..
