L-174 Spawn

My L-174's have spawned. They have spawned at least 6 times over the past 2 years. He always ate the eggs. I took them from him after one spawning and found out why. The fry instead of absorbing their egg sac bloated and died. The next time he looked after them and they finally bloated and washed out of the cave one at a time. Since then I tried the treatment that I used with angels and discus when the same problem came up. I believe the problem was salmonella that does not harm the breeders but is passed on to the egg causing the fry to bloat and die. The answer is to treat the parents with metronidazonle. This I did and finally have 10 or 12 fry in the cave. So far I only have one problem. The fry refuse to come out or be flused out. The eggs were laid January 4 and I removed the male on the 18th. Looks like they are ready to feed so I guess they will come out when they are hungry. The cave is in a fry saver so they can't get lost.

I also have 10 fry in a tumbler from my questionable L-184's. Maybe things at finally starting.

I found one little fry dead in the fry saver and the rest were still in the cave. So Sunday morning I decided to empty the cave. I got a bowl with their water and my kitchen baster and proceeded to flush them out. That was easier said than done but with flushing and shaking they all finally came out. The total is 17 and so far all are doing well in a fry saver. They were in the cave for 20 days from the day they spawned until I removed them.

My questionable 184/289 I moved from the egg bubbler totaled 11.

Yep, I only know one other person spawning them. Not many of them around at all!

The pictures will be coming. Some people kill fish and fry trying to get pictures. I take a more laid back approach.

I use a camcorder to video them and then grab stills from it... usually works
