I have seen this review elsewhere also, its a great review, thanks for posting it! Makes me feel a little better about the few Eheim 2080's I have on the way.

I don't need to read a review to know that fluvals suck!
The worst filter I have ever owned is my FX5. I would never tell another person to buy one. When I bought it BNIB they were still cheap $200. Then I seen them jump to about $300+ I could not believe it.

The FX5 is good for what it is intended. High flow and heavy mechanical filtration. What it is not as good in is biological/chemical filtration because of the excessive flow rate and short dwell time in the filter. I have an FX5 coupled with an Eheim 2028 in my 125 gallon and I quite like what it does for the price (of course I didn't pay $300 for it). It has to be in an enclosed stand though, as it's significantly louder than the Eheim, although I don't know how it compares in noise level to the bigger 2080 (a filter I plan on getting in the future unless I go the sump route).

I got one of my 2080's yesterday and hooked it up today, WOW is all I can say so far. Primed easily, and is now running. The flow rate out of it is awesome, and its silent as can be. VERY happy with it so far.

Congrats. Where did you get it (online or LFS) and how much did you pay, if you don't mind me asking. The price tag is really what is preventing me from getting one so far.

Ebay :) $210 with media... I just bought another one for $300 with media, they can be found just takes some looking. I now have 2 x 2080's and a 2180 (which needs some parts). I think I paid less for all 3 then what a brand new one with media costs at a LFS.

Wow....$200 is a great deal. They're both BNIB? Awesome.

I a big Fluval G6 Fan ( I have 2)
I have owned Eheims in the past. I owned a Pro II & III and after buying a Fluval G6 I would never go back to Eheim again. ( not to say that they were bad) I have no experience with the FX5 but G6 is best in my book. This filter has a great flo-rate (650 G/h with out media and 265 G/h with media). Aside from all the toy and features ( Electro conductivity, temp , flow rate, maintenance schedule & indicator ect) the best part about this filter is the maintenance. Take out cartridge ( with filter on or off) rinse it out and put it back in. 5 min maintenance without ever disturbing the bio. Best filter I ever owned.
I'm running 2 G6 with 2 Hydor Eth 300W inline heaters on my (130 G) Fluval Profile 1500 Planted Community.
