Getting back into plecos....

Greetings all, I was i member here quite some time back, work and life circumstances caused me to have to sell off all my tanks and about 80% of my collection to a member from here, I think his alias was KLC? anyway, i dont know what happened of Ken or the plecos he bought from me, but either way I'm back in the pleco collecting!!!

Got a 46 gallon bowfront setup, current pleco residents are a beautiful 4inch three beacon and a 3inch sunshine pleco. both are very active even with the lights on and I'm enjoying watching them feed and interact with other residents. I'm finding the UV sterilizer with it's built in powerhead to be a great help as the sunshine loves the current.

anyway, good to be back, going shopping for more tomorrow as my lfs has a 25% off all livestock sale!!

The Big Als in scarborough. It's funny because a few years back the pleco selection at this place wasn't very good, seem as though they know I'm getting back into it :)

So I picked up a beautiful almost full grown L128, fully spotted and a pair of red hump geos to keep with the south american theme

A while back they had some nice sized watermelon royals, it seems the 25% off sale has cleaned out alot of their pleco stock. The are still a couple 9inch adonis plecos and a nice 4inch L-124 that I almost picked up. Most of the plecos i get from there are very social, my new guy is already out and about diggin in the rocks with the sunshine plec

you can find L128s, L200s, L091s, clowns, BNs, rubber noses, common, sabajis, royals and adonis there almost all the time.

They have also had others like L066s, L262s, L181s, L014s for sale from time to time, though the hypans were trade ins.

I will check them out this week. I saw the L-330 they had before nothing nice about them so I passed on them.

I think I might get a few more Adonis plec's :)

Why can't the Big Al's in Montreal have similar selections of Plecos? Im really disappointed with the Montreal store when it comes to Plecos.

the L091s are 50 or 60 for larger ones, sabaji is 50 I think also, 200s are 45, 128s are 50, larger 200 or 128s are about 60-70, 14s are 60 or 70, adonis is about 70 i think and royals are 50 I believe (and they occasionally get L330s), the 181s are 20. These are all from memory, not too sure about exact pricing.

oh ps. there are like 3-4 1 inch L134s in big als a couple of days ago, but when I saw them they were already on hold. :/ priced at 50 each...but I think 50 is a little costly for a 1 inch L134, since adults were recently sold for 50.

I know what you mean, the pleco selection in London SUX also. But you are soo close to Oliver. Most of the plecos I listed are common from exporters, so Im sure Oliver could get you the ones you want. I am currently waiting for him to recieve some fancy ancistrus species.

Plus who would pay $50 for a 1' L-134's must be very very desperate.

How are the getting 1' L-134's? Sort of odd :confused:

i've always wanted leopard frogs, i hear they are pretty territorial though. 50 bucks for a couple week old pleco sounds like a ripoff

I havent been back to Lucky Aquarium since I bought a Xanto from them a few years back. I went in on a wednesday, bought the xanto and asked them to put it on hold. Came back on Sunday and they had moved the fish into the sump tank for some reason, then when the guy went to net it the fish got stuck, buddy started shaking the net and I could almost hear the spines breaking off it, really broke my heart. Got it home and the goldline royal and adult L-46 i had bullied it pretty ruthlessly and since it was pretty damaged it couldn't take care of itself very well, it was dead within the week. so yeah, i havent gone back there since.

that and they sell dyed fish, and i dont agree with that

so yeah :)

WOW that is screwed up stuff. I hate to hear things liek that and with such a fish :(

When I go in I net my own fish there I just walk up to the tanks take the net and pick out the ones I want. I dont care LOL They dont mind and they know I wont let them net my fish.
Even when I go to big al's or any other LFS I make sure they dont mess with my fish. I have not bought a fish from a LFS in over 8 months.

I need to go on a mini LFS trip :)
